What our Volunteers say: Claire
Star is a sweet, affectionate girl who absolutely adores cuddles and connection. From the moment she arrived, she made herself at home, curling up on the sofa, resting her head gently against her humans, and loving every moment of close contact. She is a true "touch dog," thriving on physical closeness and warmth.
She is playful and toy-motivated, with a particular love for soft, squishy things (yes, including slippers—so keep an eye out!). While she enjoys her toys immensely, she can be possessive and has shown mild resource guarding around other dogs. Because of this, a home with no other pets, or one with patient, dog-savvy humans, would be ideal. She will respond to a "no" and let you take the toy from her.
Apart from two little accidents upon arrival, she has been consistently clean and responds beautifully to positive reinforcement. A simple "good girl" lights her up, and she listens well to gentle corrections like "no," especially when followed by praise.
Star has a strong prey drive—squirrels and cats definitely catch her eye—but with a firm lead and clear cues like "no" and "come on," she redirects and keeps walking. She is a little strong on the lead simply because the world is full of exciting things to explore!
She does experience some separation anxiety and has chewed furniture when left alone. However, she responds well to voice commands via a home camera ("no," "settle down"), showing she is eager to learn and calm down when guided.
She loves people, always greeting them with a waggy tail and kisses, and is eager to be fussed over. The best way to describe Star is as a beautiful, snuggly, cuddly girl who will make the perfect sofa companion.
At night, she settles well if she is in her prime position on the sofa. Her routine has been a toilet break in the garden followed by a "goodnight" before bed, and she has been left for around 8 hours without a fuss. However, there was another greyhound in the room at the time, so we are not sure if she would settle quite as well on her own.
