Review: Kev the Gentle Giant at Quarry Bank
Kev is the definition of a "gentle giant." If you are looking for a hound who combines a laid-back attitude with a heart of gold, Kev is your man. We recently took him for a day out to Quarry Bank and Styal Village, and he was a superstar from start to finish.
The Journey
Despite being a "big lad," Kev is an excellent passenger. He settled down quickly and spent the journey laying down quietly. While his size means you should watch your back when lifting him, he is incredibly cooperative and happy to be lifted in and out of cars with high sills. By the end of the day, he seemed so comfortable that he was actually reluctant to get out—he clearly appreciates the "mobile lounge" lifestyle!
Out and About
Kev is remarkably well-adjusted in public spaces. During our walk through Styal Village and the ornamental gardens, he encountered dogs of all shapes and sizes (including very small ones). His reaction? Total calm. He didn't react to a single one, proving he’s a steady companion in busy areas.
He also showed a curious side by the river; while he was interested in watching the water, he decided that paddling wasn't for him—he’s definitely a "keep my paws dry" kind of boy.
Social Butterfly
If there is a person nearby, Kev wants to be their friend. He is exceptionally friendly and:
Loves Children: He was incredibly gentle with children of all sizes, including toddlers.
The "Hugger": He actively goes up to people for strokes, wags his tail, and genuinely loves a good hug.
Dog-Friendly: He got on famously with our hound, Otto, and was perfectly polite when meeting other greyhounds on the trail.
Cafe & Picnic Manners
Kev is a dream in dining areas. In the cafe, he was perfectly behaved, soaking up attention from strangers without making a fuss. Most impressively, during our picnic, he didn’t beg or bother us once while we were eating—a rare trait for such a big eater!
Summary
Kev is a loving, gentle soul who just wants to be part of the family. Whether he’s snoozing in the back of the car or making friends with toddlers in a cafe, he handles everything with grace. We cannot recommend this big, beautiful boy enough to anyone looking for a loyal companion.
