What our Volunteers say:
Sonny is an exceptionally well-behaved dog with a calm, loving, and gentle nature. He has settled into a home environment remarkably well, demonstrating a wonderful temperament that makes him a pleasure to be around.
Socially, Sonny is a very confident and friendly dog. He thrives on human interaction, reacting positively to visitors in the home and remaining completely unfazed by members of the public, even in busy, crowded settings like a cafΓ©. His interactions with other animals are notably calm; he observes other dogs without reacting and showed only mild curiosity towards a cat. He is not easily startled and was unbothered even when stepped over while sleeping.
In the home, Sonny is fully house-trained and responsive to commands such as "lie down" and "no". He is not troubled by loud household noises like alarms, dishwashers, or mowers. He has also proven to be excellent when left alone, showing no signs of separation anxiety and simply choosing to sleep for several hours.
Regarding his specific behaviours, Sonny is a "grazer" with his food, but his appetite is significantly boosted by a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. He is still learning his manners around food and may try to take food from other dogs. During walks, he is very good on the lead but has a strong aversion to gravel or sharp tarmac, much preferring to walk on grass. It was also noted he is keener on his walks when not wearing a muzzle. At present, he has not yet learned how to play with toys or balls.
Sonny has been the perfect house guest this weekend. Sonny by name and Sunny by nature! He is the most home ready kennel hound I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Never before have I hosted one who is fully house trained, could be left for 4 hours on the second day, instantly fitted in with a pack of 5 other hounds with no issues, was the perfect gentleman out and about and learned the stairs in minutes. A very clever and loving star of a hound. The only thing he doesn't like is gravel under his tootsies... but then, who does? On my way to kennels to take this gorgeous soul back and I am heartbroken that I can't keep him. I soooo want to but we are full π€§ππ. If anyone is looking for a doddle of a new forever friend to share their lives then Sonny is the one π
