Ralph

Ralph is a confident and energetic boy who can be shy at first, especially around men he doesn't know. Once he builds trust, he's a loving companion. He gets very excited about going for a walk or having his dinner and is eager to bring his wonderful personality to a forever home. While he has experienced getting in and out of cars, he is not yet acclimatised to travelling over long distances. He pulls on the lead and can be unsure of things he's not used to.

Ralph may be a big boy who weighs 35kg, but he’s a gentle soul who didn’t pull on the lead once.

It did nothing but rain on our assessment walk with him, yet Ralph didn’t stop smiling and he loved stopping to sniff every bush. Stopping to sniff is so important for him to readjust to his new life, as every walk and smell will be an adventure. So, his new owners will have to take this into consideration, because it means that some walks will be long ones with all the sniffs!

On our walk, we saw a small, fluffy dog. We stopped to let this dog pass and Ralph didn’t react, so we made a big fuss of him.

Ralph will need a few more walks, though, to see what he’s like around different types of dogs and with different temperaments. As it rained the whole time we had him out for an assessment, we didn’t see many dogs.

In the house, Ralph discovered that he was a very handsome boy and loved looking at himself in the mirror! 😂 He’s a clean and well-mannered boy – there were no toilet accidents and he didn’t try to jump on any of our furniture.

Understandably, Ralph didn’t like being on his own and was our little shadow. He was very interested in what was inside our fridge and appears to be food-motivated, which is good because it means he can be rewarded for positive behaviours like weeing in the garden, lying down, waiting, or getting in his bed. When we were both in the same room, he quickly settled into his bed, but he seemed much happier lying on our rug.

In the car, Ralph took a few minutes to lie down and settle, and he spent most of the journey curled up.

We took both Ralph and George with us today to Pennington Flash. They are very similar, not just in looks but in their personality, too. They travelled well in the car; Ralf just needed a little help getting in.

They had a great walk, meeting and greeting everyone with waggy tails. They are so friendly! 🥰 No reaction to dogs. Both walked well, but they are strong on the leads when they want to get to something. They are a lovely pair of boys, and it would be lovely if they got a home together. ❤️ ♥️
