What our Volunteers say: Heather
We took Vinnie for a day out to Bents garden centre, and we were more than pleasantly surprised by what a wonderful boy he is! First of all, he did amazingly well in the car—he jumped straight in, lay right down, and stayed perfectly settled the whole way there.
We started by walking around the Pets Place, the garden sections, and around the small lake. He walks exceptionally well on the lead! Vinnie absolutely adores people and wagged his tail at every single human we met, especially the smaller versions—he really loves kids. Add in the fact that he travels well, can be left alone, and is reportedly cat-friendly, and he has so much going for him.
When it comes to other dogs, Vinnie is just a boy who prefers his own personal bubble. He can be a little unsure if strange dogs get right up in his space, but we found this so easy to manage. If you simply anticipate it, ask him to 'leave it,' and give him lots of praise once the dog has passed, he is absolute gold. He is very easily distracted and will happily look away of his own accord if the other dog isn't paying him any attention.
Because he likes having his own space, we feel Vinnie would thrive best as the only dog in the home where he can soak up all the human fuss for himself. He’s looking for an understanding adopter (ideally someone greyhound-savvy) who can give him a bit of gentle guidance on his walks and won't expect him to be best pals with every dog he meets. With just a little time and patience, this lovely boy is going to make the perfect companion.
