What our Volunteers say about Tara.
Tara was a really good girl today. She travelled well; after being a little nervous at first, she sat quietly and was soon happy looking out of the window.
On her walk, she was very alert and curious about everything but wasn't reactive at all—no lunging or fleeing, even when some ducks went squawking right next to her face! 😂 She can be a little strong on the lead at times, but it's nothing major. She was happy to go in whichever direction you asked, with no fuss. She was sociable with the other hounds we met, but we didn't see much of her with other breeds.
She’s easy to reassure and will press herself against your leg if something unfamiliar or noisy is going on. I reckon she’ll build confidence quickly.
To top it off, she took treats very gently and waited politely for her pup cup (which she loved!). On the drive back, she lay down immediately and went to sleep. A lovely little girl.
Laura says:
A bit more on Tara from today: she was a real sweetie again and is doing well at building her confidence with unfamiliar sights and sounds. She is a little fearful of things flapping in the wind (such as canvas/tarp tents or the pull-up signs from today’s show), but she was much improved by the end of the day, so I expect she’ll gain confidence when everything isn’t quite so new.
She travelled well again, was quick to settle, and very tolerant of being lifted in and out of the car - no wriggling! She was sociable with other sighthounds, as always, and polite when smaller dogs approached, but she isn’t especially interested in other breeds. She ignored the goats entirely!
Lastly, she is super interested in toys. Squeaky toys especially grab her attention, which is a bit frustrating for her when the toys are not hers or can be heard in the distance. Ultimately, she just wants to play, and it is really encouraging to see her playful side coming through as she comes out of her shell. She is a lovely girl.
