What our Volunteers say: Lynne & Jonathan
We met Doug at kennels and put on his “Sunday best” so we could show off this beautiful Blue Greyhound on our trip out. This was Dougs first adventure out of the kennel environment so he would be encountering many new experiences. First test was meeting Otto our greyhound, they greeted each other warmly. Second test, was for me, could I lift him the car. I do this because we have a high sill. Lets say, he his a big lad, but my back survived.
We had a 30 min drive from kennels to Quary Bank, he lay down as soon as we were on the road, only getting up to look out the window on a couple of occasions. On arrival, he was very interested in what he was experiencing. He was quite strong on the lead, and was snaking as we walked. We headed down to the mill, where for some reason, he seamed to like the gentleman standing a few feet away from me….he sidled up to up and then began leaning on him. He admitted he wasn’t really a dog person, but was quite touched how Doug had chosen him.
We then went on a woodland walk. Here he met many dogs large and small, in particular, he met 4 dachshunds, one of which was quite vocal, and the others just interested in this tall blue hound. He had very good manners.
On the way back to the visitors centre, he saw Highland cattle and was very curious of this shaggy beasts. He also encountered a steep hill with steps down to the visitors centre. He did well descending them. By now Doug was not pulling on the lead and was very comfortable walking along side us.
The next test was visiting the cafe, he showed no interest in food when we were eating our lunch, he met many people including children. He was happy when they stroking him. Doug was quite happy with cuddles from us too.
On the way back he lay down in the car and did not sit up until we were back at kennels. He wandered back into his own kennel knowing exactly where it was. Doug, is such a lovely, stunning looking hound, and really needs an adoptive parent to give him more fun days out.

We had the gorgeous grey boy Doug out with us today
He can be a little bit fiddly to get going at first and definitely likes to make you work for that walk 😂, but once we were on our way he was such a good boy.
He was brilliant around other dogs and thoroughly enjoyed getting a fuss from everyone we met, including children. He’s a lovely, friendly boy and very happy to stop and say hello.
The rain, however, got a definite thumbs down from Doug. 😂 Once he’d decided he’d had enough for the day, he jumped straight into the car with no trouble at all and seemed quite pleased to be heading back to his warm, dry bed.
Such a lovely boy to spend some time with. Now he just needs to swap that kennel bed for his very own forever sofa.
